Power outage in the Prater: Visitors wait at dizzying heights!
On Saturday, December 7, 2024, a power outage in Vienna's famous Prater caused unwanted thrills. At about 3:30 p.m., several rides were canceled, leaving riders stranded at dizzying heights. According to Wiener Netze press spokeswoman Manuela Gutenbrunner, the power outage only occurred in a small area around the Ferris wheel and did not affect any households in the 2nd district. Visitors had to wait around 20 minutes in the rides until power could be restored, as on MyDistrict is reported.
Fire brigade in action
The Vienna fire department was alerted at around 4:00 p.m. with around 30 emergency services to prepare for a possible evacuation of the affected passengers. Fortunately, the power supply was quickly restored so that the fire department did not need to intervene. Visitors to the Prater shared videos of the incident on social media, capturing the dramatic moments. After the power outage ended, all stations were operational again until approximately 5:00 p.m., as reported by wien.ORF.at reported.
