There was a dramatic traffic accident in Salzkotten-Upsprunge on February 5, 2025, which left two people seriously injured. A 52-year-old tractor driver from Altenbeken wanted to cross the intersection on Wewelsburger Strasse with his tractor and trailer when he collided with a Mazda driven by a 69-year-old driver from Büren, who was traveling on Wewelsburger Strasse, which had the right of way, in the direction of Upsprunge. The impact was so severe that the car was thrown off the road and into a tree before coming to rest in the ditch. The driver and his 70-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries, but were freed from the vehicle by the Salzkotten fire department and taken to a Paderborn hospital. Fireworld reported that the tractor driver was uninjured and his life was not in danger. The Mazda, on the other hand, suffered a total loss of around 40,000 euros.
