Serious accident on the A7: cash-in-transit vehicle overturns – two injured!
On Saturday night there was a dramatic accident on Autobahn 7 between the Hasselberg gas station and rest area and the Malsfeld junction, which seriously injured two occupants of a valuables van. The Homberg fire department was called to free the driver and passenger from the badly damaged vehicle, which tipped onto its side and slid across the road after a collision with a truck.
The rescue work was anything but easy. Operations manager Udo Helwig reported that the two men were trapped in the reinforced passenger cell of the van. According to initial investigations, the front right side of the transporter hit the rear of the truck, which led to the serious accident. The fire brigade was finally able to free the occupants from the rubble before they were treated by rescue teams and emergency doctors and taken to nearby hospitals.
Massive rescue operation on the highway
The motorway had to be completely closed in order to salvage the valuables transporter. A total of 20 firefighters from Homberg were on duty, supported by two rescue teams, two emergency doctor teams and the crew of the Christoph 90 rescue helicopter. Officers from the Baunatal police motorway station were also on site to secure the situation and clarify the scene of the accident.
