A dramatic accident occurred in Echte this morning! An 85-year-old driver from Kalefeld crossed the main road/Bundesstraße 445 around 9.15 a.m. and overlooked the vehicle of a 50-year-old from Northeimer, who had the right of way. The collision was violent and left the elderly man trapped in his badly damaged car!

The rescue workers were there quickly! Firefighters from the Northeim fire department and the Technical Relief Agency, who happened to be nearby, immediately rushed to help. They administered first aid while waiting for emergency services. When the alerted fire brigade arrived, the driver's door was removed using hydraulic rescue equipment to free the injured driver. During this critical rescue operation, the 85-year-old received immediate medical attention.

Injured person taken to hospital

After initial treatment at the scene of the accident, the 85-year-old was taken to Northeim Hospital in an ambulance. Fortunately, the 50-year-old, who was treated on site, remained uninjured. The Bad Gandersheim police estimate the property damage at an impressive 14,000 euros. The accident caused significant traffic delays while numerous onlookers observed the operation.
