A spectacular accident occurred on Monday evening on the A3 in the Würzburg district when a driver suddenly came off the street. The driver, a man, lost control of his small car between Randersacker and Biebelried and broke through the guardrail. As a result, his vehicle raced down a slope and landed in a frozen water retention basin below the highway, where the car sank to the roof in the icy water, said today.
The driver suffered injuries, but was able to free himself from the car in good time. Members of the volunteer fire brigade hurried to help and saved him from the icy water. He was taken to the hospital with a hypothermia, while divers of the Würzburg professional fire brigade search the wreck for other possible inmates. The emergency services could not find any other people.
