Semi-trailer accident in Görtschitztal: driver only slightly injured!
On May 28, 2025, a serious accident occurred on Görtschitztal Straße (B92), near Labegg, in which a tractor-trailer came off the road. The 45-year-old driver of the vehicle apparently lost control after the right rear wheel of the trailer hit the shoulder of the road. As a result, the truck overturned and fell over an embankment into a field. Fortunately, the driver only suffered minor injuries and went to hospital on his own for an examination.
The Brückl fire department was quickly alerted to secure the scene of the accident. The tractor-trailer came to rest on its left side, leaking a small amount of oil. The emergency services were able to quickly bind the oil so that no environmental hazard could be identified. The operation was routine and quick, without any major complications.
Road safety and incidents
The 31-year-old woman was severely trapped in this incident and died at the scene of the accident. The fire department had to rescue her from the wreckage while the B92 was closed to all traffic until 2:30 p.m. A total of 30 firefighters were involved in this operation to secure the accident site and regulate traffic.
Statistics and accident research
Accidents like these are recorded by police authorities and included in road traffic accident statistics. In Austria, relevant data regarding road traffic accidents resulting in personal injuries are systematically recorded. The Federal Ministry of the Interior transmits these to Statistics Austria every day in order to continuously monitor accident events and create a basis for accident research and prevention. The results are published quarterly and annually.
The legal basis for the statistical recording of road traffic accidents is set out in the Road Traffic Accident Statistics Act and the corresponding ordinance. This serves to provide reliable data for improving road safety.
The repeated increase in traffic accidents on the B92 shows the need for further measures to increase traffic safety in this region. While local authorities are already taking action, it remains to be seen what additional steps will be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.
