On January 11, 2025, several accidents occurred on the A20 motorway near Wismar in the Nordwestmecklenburg district, which were due to slippery roads. Within just under two hours, police reported several collisions caused by the wintry road conditions.

The first incident occurred when a van left the road due to excessive speed and crashed into the guardrail at the Wismar motorway junction. About half an hour later, another driver lost control of his vehicle and also crashed into the guardrail near Neukloster. The third accident followed ten minutes after the second, when another vehicle collided with the guardrail near Hornstorf. Fortunately, there were no injuries in any of these accidents, but the estimated total damage amounts to around 44,000 euros, as NDR 1 Radio MV reports.
