Oil film alarmed fire brigade: Danger from dilapidated cutter in Kiel!
Kiel. An approximately 20 meter long wooden cutter, the "storm bird", has caused an oil film that spreads over the water. The ship has been located on the old envelope spark by the former naval base base for months, but on Tuesday at 11 a.m. the oil film was discovered, which extended until the port of the port.
The Kiel fire brigade was immediately alerted by the water protection police. The North Guard fire truck quickly moved up, supported by the new "Dat Füüershipp". A thin oil film was visible on the water, which spread threatening to the fjord. Almost 30 firefighters were mobilized to control the situation. The fire brigade had to intervene again on Wednesday because the amount of oil had increased.
Oil pollution by "Sturmvogel"
The cause of oil pollution was quickly localized: the "storm bird" lost oil due to a leak. The investigation into the exact cause is still ongoing, while the Wasserstraßen- und Seilfahrfrungsamt Baltic Sea is already taking measures. The shipping authority has been observing an increasing number of orphaned watercraft in the Plüschowhafen for a long time.
The "storm bird", which is located in Maasholm, shows significant signs of repair needs and could possibly no longer drive on its own. However, there is no concrete indications of a threatening sinking of the ship. The water protection police have strengthened its stripes in the area, while working together on a solution to defense against danger. Initial considerations of how the "storm bird" can be recovered before winter are already underway.
