Great fire in Lennestadt: Carport is on fire, residents evacuated!
A dramatic inferno caused excitement on Saturday morning in Grevenbrück! The Lennestadt fire brigade was alerted into a devastating carport fire, which quickly developed into a sea of flames. Already on the way there was a dense cloud of smoke that pointed out the severity of the fire. When the emergency services arrived, the carport, directly adjacent to a residential building, stood in flames.
In view of the threatening situation, additional firefighters were immediately requested. The firefighters fought against the flames with two jet pipes, but the fire was already too advanced to prevent spreading to the residential building. In the carport, a safety valve triggered a gas bottle, which further tightened the risk situation. Several squads under breathing protection started a bold internal attack, while the roof of the house was opened via aerial ladders to fight hidden embers. But the fire spread quickly to the roof of the roof, and the carport collapsed under the pressure of the flames.
Use and auxiliary services
The fire fighting turned out to be extremely exhausting, so that a total of 18 troops had to be mobilized under breathing protection. The water supply was ensured via the public hydrant network and the Veischedebach about 300 meters away, which led to the full closure of the K7. During the mission, a firefighter suffered circulatory problems and had to be taken to the hospital. Around 85 emergency services were cared for by the German Red Cross.
In addition to the fire brigade in Lennestadt, the fire brigades from Attendorn and Finnentrop as well as the emergency services of the district of Olpe were also deployed. They were supported by Mario Fuhlen, the deputy district fire chief, and Markus Hamers, the head of the Lennestadt fire brigade. The residential building was damaged by the fire and the fire water so much that the residents cannot return for the time being. Details on the cause of the fire and the amount of damage are previously unknown.
