Fire department deployment: Goose rescued from delivery truck!

On Friday, November 29, 2024, an incident in Wetter (Ruhr) made headlines when the fire department was called to an unusual operation. According to a report from Fireworld.at, the emergency management service received the alarm at 5:49 p.m. for an unclear situation on Königstrasse, where a delivery truck driver had stated that he had hit a goose. Challenges arose because the driver did not speak German and therefore could not provide further information.

At the same time, the driver informed the fire department that he had picked up the injured animal in his truck and taken it to the nearby police station. There the emergency services found the goose and, thanks to a firefighter with excellent foreign language skills, were able to clarify that the animal had flown in front of the car. The injured animal was then transferred to the animal shelter and the entire operation was completed in just 40 minutes with no further action required. While the fire department was caring for the goose, the team was also called to another incident at a gas station. On the evening of the same day, at 10:27 p.m., an incorrect operation triggered the burglar fogging system, which led to a misleading alarm. The all-clear was quickly given to combat the great excitement - there was no fire.

Fascinating characteristics of geese

Did you know that geese aren't just responsible for this little episode? Fun fact: According to an article from Facts.net, these are amazing animals that have complex social structures and communication skills. These birds often live in large groups and travel impressive distances of up to 3,000 kilometers during their migration. They are extremely intelligent and can remember faces - an ability that helps them defend their territory. Not only are they useful in agriculture by eating weeds and fertilizing the soil, but they also play a significant role in various cultures and myths.

The combination of these two themes - the fire department's response to an injured goose and the fascinating characteristics of the geese themselves - shows us how the remarkable nature of our feathered friends comes to the fore during an everyday incident. Geese are not only a part of rural life, but they also constantly create new stories that captivate us.
