On December 10, 2024, the community and friends said goodbye to Johann Plank, an outstanding citizen and innkeeper, who died at the age of 92. It was with great sadness that the “Innkeeper z’Schweinbach” was honored, who shaped the Plank inn for decades and occupied a permanent place in the village community. Plank, who was born in Engerwitzdorf in 1933, began his life in difficult times when, after losing his father as a prisoner of war, he had to leave school to work on his parents' farm. A passionate farmer, he uses innovative techniques and was one of the first in the village to use modern equipment to further his farming interests. His inn remained a place of meeting and discussion for the villagers until the end, as the volunteer fire department and the Schweinbach Sports Union also emphasized.
An honorable legacy
Johann Plank not only leaves behind a family with children, children-in-law, 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, but also a lasting legacy in the community. He died in the presence of family members, reflecting his last days in peace and security.
