ÖSV downhill team under pressure: Hannes Reichelt demands more responsibility!
There is currently a lot of unrest in the Ski World Cup, as Hannes Reichelt, ex-speed star and 13-time World Cup winner, made clear during “Sport and Talk from Hangar-7” on ServusTV. After the season so far with races in Beaver Creek, where Switzerland celebrated a remarkable triumph, the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) is lagging behind in the search for success. Reichelt criticized the perception that only the athletes were responsible for the poor performances and called for collective responsibility that also included the coaches. “You can’t just say the runners. It’s a team and the coaches are part of it too,” said the 2014 Kitzbühel winner.
Switzerland and the Austrians lagging behind
Reichelt pointed out that Austrian fans are used to more than the current results. "Just like the Swiss are driving everything into the ground. But we're still a long way away from that," he explained. His comment about Vincent Kriechmayr, who showed some reserves in Beaver Creek, is particularly interesting. "If you watch him, you can see that he still has reserves. He has to bring them out in the next races," noted Reichelt, reminding us that an increase in performance is necessary in order to survive in international competition again.
The coming week promises exciting competitions in the Audi FIS Ski World Cup, with a variety of races being broadcast on television. The men's downhill races on Friday, December 6, as well as Super G and giant slalom on the following days, will air both live and in later timeslots on NBC. Spectators can look forward to a thrilling ski weekend while the athletes fight to catch up in the World Cup standings after a less than satisfactory start to the season for the Austrian athletes BC World Cup reported.
