Ukraine carries out great operation against Russian airwood bases

The Ukraine has large-scale drone attacks at four airwaffing spots deep in Russia . This emerges from information from the Ukrainian Security Authority (SBU). According to this report, several fighter jets were destroyed in the attacks. If these reports are confirmed, this would be the most ambitious simultaneous attacks at Russian air force bases since the beginning of the war.

Details of the attacks

An SBU insider reported that Russian bombers "burn massively" at four air force bases far away from one another. The drones were therefore started by trucks within Russia. Over 40 aircraft, including TU-95 and TU-22M3 strategic bombers and one of the few remaining A-50 reconnaissance aircraft, are said to have been met.

destinations of the air strikes

The attacked military base spaces included Belaya in Irkutsk, about 4,500 kilometers (2,800 miles) from the Ukrainian border, as well as the Dyagilevo base in Ryazan, which is about 520 kilometers (320 miles) from Ukraine and serves as a training center for the strategic bomber fleet of Russia. The Olenya base near Murmansk in the Arctic circle, more than 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) from Ukraine, was also hit according to the SBU sources, as was the air force base Ivanovo, which is more than 800 kilometers (500 miles) from Ukraine and serves as a basis for military transport aircraft.

reactions from Russia

The Russian Ministry of Defense has so far been no comment on the attacks. However, the governor of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobziev, confirmed via Telegram that the drones had been launched by a truck near the Belaya basis. KOBZIEV also did not provide any information on the exact number of drones used, but there are emergency and security services at the scene.

effects of the attacks

According to a SBU source, the drones aimed at airplanes that bomb Ukrainian cities every night. The estimated damage on the Russian side amounts to over $ 2 billion. A video that was provided by the source allegedly shows the burning area of the Belaya Air Force Base, while the head of the SBU, Lt. Gen. Vasyl Malyuk, commented on the location. "How beautiful the Belaya Air Force Base now looks. Equipable strategic aircraft," he is quoted.

logistical challenges

The SBU source explained that the operation was "logistically extremely complicated". The drones were hidden in mobile wooden houses that were transported to Russia on trucks. "The drones were stowed under the roofs of the houses that had already been loaded on truck. At the right moment the roofs were opened remotely, and the drones started to attack the Russian bombers," reported the insider.

Another video supposedly shows the start of drones from a truck, while vehicles drive past a nearby highway. Another picture shows the roof of the truck on the ground. According to the source, the participants have already returned to Dieukraine.

This report was supported by CNN journalists Frankie Vetch and Eve Brennan.
