Russia starts record -breaking drone attack on Ukraine
Ukraine announced on Wednesday that Russia has started the largest drone attack to date since the beginning of the invasion. This happened just a few hours after US President Donald Trump had promised more military support for Kiev and accused Russian President Vladimir Putin to speak "nonsense" during the peace talks.
massive air raid on Ukraine
The massive air raid comprised 741 drones, as the Ukraine Air Force reported. This significantly exceeded the previous record number of 539 drones used on July 4. Despite this high number, the attack was largely fended off, so that the damage remained limited and there were no direct reports on deaths.
reaction from President Zelensky
"This is a demonstrative attack that comes at a time when there were many attempts to achieve peace and an armistice, but Russia rejects everything," wrote Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj on Telegram. "Our partners know how to exert pressure so that Russia is forced to think about the end of the war and not about new attacks. Everyone who wants to do peace must act."
intensive attacks on Lutsk
The attacks primarily focused on the city of Lutsk in northwestern Ukraine. The air strikes were so intense that Polish military leadership had to send their aircraft into airspace. Ivan Rudnitskyi, the head of the military administration in the Wolyn region, said on Telegram: "Last night our region was again exposed to a mass attack. Practically everything flew towards Lutsk."
defense measures and counterattacks
The Ukraine Air Force indicated that he had shot 718 of the drones. There were no immediate reports on deaths. However, a woman was admitted to the hospital with breast injuries in the city of Brovary, near Kiev, as the mayor announced. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Ukraine started 86 drones towards Russia on the night.
Trump's support for Ukraine
The increased attack on Moscow on Kiev follows remarkable 48 hours in the White House, in which Trump expressed his displeasure with the lack of commitment of the Russian president for a peace treaty and assured more support for Ukraine. "We get a lot of nonsense from Putin if you want to know the truth," said Trump in a cabinet meeting. "He's very nice all the time, but it turns out that this is meaningless."
military aid and arms deliveries
On Monday, Trump promised to resume military help to Ukraine after a high -ranking employee of the White House had announced CNN last week that the United States would pause some arms deliveries to Kiev, including air defense missiles. Kiev urgently needs more American patriot fishing missiles to ward off the attacks from Russia.
defense by the USA
"We will send some more weapons (to Ukraine)," said Trump on Monday evening. "We have to do that - you have to be able to defend yourself." He added: "You are hit very violently. We have to send more weapons, mainly defensive weapons, but they are very, very hard attacked." A spokesman for the Pentagon later explained that "At the instructions of President Trump, the Ministry of Defense sends additional defensive weapons to Ukraine so that the Ukrainians can defend themselves while trying to secure a permanent peace and end."
Criticism of the arms break
The Defense Minister Pete Hegseth had not informed Trump, according to five sources, who are familiar with the matter, before the gun break was approved in the last week.
