Austria's tennis men dream of the Davis Cup final in Hungary!
Austria's tennis is looking forward to exciting challenges: After an impressive 4: 0 against Finland in the ÖTV-Davis Cup, the team is optimistic about the upcoming country struggles in Hungary. The opportunity to qualify for the final tournament for the second time after 2020 motivates the players enormously. ÖTV sports director Jürgen Melzer expressed the chances of success to be optimistic: "We are outsiders, but if everyone is in good shape, that could work out, that would be a huge success," said Melzer. This happens in a hotly competitive euro Africa zone that will be done in Vilnius between 8 and April 12th.
difficult challenges in Vilnius
In the BJK Cup, the Austrian team will compete without the deputy leading player Sinja Kraus. Instead, Julia Grabher, Tamara Kostic and the debutants Arabella Koller, Ekaterina Perelygina and Mavie Austrians are present. Captain Marion Maruska knows about the difficulties and emotional pressure: "It will certainly be very challenging because the Euro Africa zone is very difficult," she explains. In particular, the combination of indoor hard court tournament and the beginning of the sandplace season is a big challenge for some players.
The goal is clear: The ÖTV Davis Cup team wants to secure a ticket for the High League after success against Latvia, Portugal and Croatia. A level higher on 12./13. September in Budapest is waiting for another hurdle: "We could qualify for the second time. It is now more difficult because you have to win two national struggles," emphasizes Melzer. The promotion to the top 8 has been a great success for Austria's men since 2012, especially in view of the competition by the Hungarian top 100 players Fabian Marozsan and Marton Fucsovics.
The anticipation is noticeable and the hopes also rest on Sebastian Ofner, who returns to both heels after operations. "A Sebastian Ofner in the form would definitely not be a disadvantage there," says Melzer, who hopes for an early form.
For everyone who wants to go on the footsteps of these exciting events in Vienna, hotels such as the Hotel König von Hungary are impressive accommodation. This historical accommodation, known for its impressive architecture and central location behind St. St. Stephen's Cathedral, promises an unforgettable experience with a touch of Viennese tradition and modernity
