Munich Security Conference 2025: A meeting of the powerful is expected!

From February 14 to 16, 2025, Munich will be the focus of the international security debate as the 61st Munich Security Conference (MSC) takes place. Leading politicians and decision-makers from Europe, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, are coming together to discuss pressing issues such as the Ukraine conflict and crises in the Middle East. These high-level meetings, held at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel, attract not only politicians but also more than 5,000 security personnel to secure the city during the conference. Preparations will begin on February 12th, with extensive traffic restrictions and parking bans, such as In Munich reported.

A central concern of the MSC is the Munich Declaration 2025, which will be presented on the opening day. This initiative aims to strengthen the European defense architecture and outline innovative steps to promote strategic independence in a complex geopolitical landscape. The Europe Panel emphasizes the need for collective action by governments, institutions and industry to turn the vision of a safer and more competitive European community into reality. The Munich Declaration is supported by the Open Forum Alpbach and other organizations and reflects the desire to position Europe as a strong, confident player on the world stage, according to statements by OTS.

The political discussions go hand in hand with events for the public, including the MSC Security and Literature Series, which covers a wide range of security policy topics. Numerous counter-demonstrations have also been announced, which will take place primarily on Saturday, February 15th. These controversies underline the social relevance of the topics addressed during the conference. The city of Munich is preparing for these events in order to offer a safe platform for high-level exchanges and at the same time give space to justified protests.
