Knaus Tabbert: Production stop in Jandelsbrunn - what now?
A shock for motorhome lovers! Knaus Tabbert, the renowned manufacturer from Jandelsbrunn, has stopped production at its main factory from Monday, November 18th until the end of the year. This surprising turn of events comes after a period of unbroken boom during the pandemic, when demand for RVs went through the roof. But now the factories are at a standstill and the warehouses are overcrowded!
The situation has changed dramatically: After record sales and a wait of up to two years for new purchases, Knaus Tabbert's warehouses are now full of vehicles that cannot be sold. To boost sales, the company has launched a discount campaign that runs until December 15th. Customers can save up to 8,000 euros when buying a new car! But despite these measures, uncertainty remains high.
Financial difficulties and personnel changes
The problems are not new: Back in August, Knaus Tabbert extended the factory holidays from three to five weeks. Longtime CEO Wolfgang Speck resigned in October, and the chief financial officer position has been vacant since February. The company's shares have plummeted - from over 60 euros in June to just 12.90 euros. Dealers are struggling with increased interest burdens and difficulties in financing their inventories.
Despite the gloomy outlook, there is a glimmer of hope: Works council chairman Anton Autengruber is optimistic that demand for mobile homes will pick up again in 2025. While the competition is not yet struggling with similar problems, the Upper Franconian plant near Bamberg remains unaffected by short-time work. In the past, Knaus Tabbert has not only invested in production, but also reduced manufacturing costs. The future remains exciting!
