Asylum fear: Great Britain lists a record number of applications!

In the UK, a worrying record was set: Last year, around 108,000 people applied for asylum, which corresponds to an increase of 18 percent compared to 2023 and exceeds the figures of the past 20 years. According to the British Ministry of the Interior in London, this number is even above the previous record of 2002 with 103,000 applications. More and more people who travel without the necessary papers are trying to get into the country via the English Channel, which dramatically exacerbates the migration situation.

The number of irregular arrivals is particularly alarming: Almost 44,000 of such cases were registered in 2024, which corresponds to an increase of 19 percent compared to the previous year, although this is less than in 2022. Most of these people (84 percent) travel with small boats, which makes the dangerous crossings over the English Canal all the more risky. Tragically, 72 migrants lost their lives during the dangerous passage last year, since smugglers often use overcrowded boats, according to the reports of the French marine prefecture.

government reacts strongly to the migration crisis

Great Britain's Prime Minister Keir Strandmer from the Labor Party has announced that it will strengthen border protection and act against the smugglers. The government is planning to proceed against irregular migration, including the publication of photos of deportation fees, to illustrate its hard line. These measures are intended to defuse the situations at the limits and make it clear that the British government wants to counter this challenge with all determination, as well as dpa-Afx .
