Wiener Zeitung Meinzär increased edition: growth despite challenging times!

Wien, Österreich - On March 24, 2025, Mein area announced that the weekly edition in Vienna will be increased by about 10 percent. The managing director of Meinverkirk Vienna, Gerhard Riedler, explained that this measure reflects the continuous population development in the city, which now has over two million people. Currently, 545,000 expenses per week are already being distributed to the Viennese to inform them about local events in the districts. According to MeinDienst this platform is the leading information source for local topics in Vienna.

The stability of population growth in Vienna was confirmed by current surveys by the city. In 2023, the number of residents crossed the first time since 1910 the two million mark. In the first quarter of 2025, 2,000 new residents were recorded between January and February. In January alone there was a balanced balance with 1,661 births and 1,643 deaths that corresponds to the average of 2019 to 2023. A remarkable positive migration balance of 831 people shows that the move to Vienna was twice as high this year as on average of previous years. Half of Vienna's residents come from abroad, which underlines the city's international attraction. These developments were underpowered by the

growth tendencies in the districts

The demographic changes in Vienna are not uniform. While the inner districts tend to show stagnation or even shrinkage, the southern and eastern districts grow. This tendency is in contrast to many cities in Eastern Europe, where the population often decreases, apart from urban centers such as Prague or Warsaw. In southern Europe, especially in countries such as Greece and Italy, shrinking population can also be observed. The city of Vienna uses modern techniques, including the data visualization app "Viennaviz" to present these trends interactively and to visualize the development in the various districts, as can be found on 1 × 1

The new version of Viennaviz enables statistical data in choroplete cards for Vienna and Europe. In Vienna, users can call up information about 250 counting districts and 1,368 counting areas. In addition, the city is divided into 94 forecast regions, which include various counting districts. With a mouse overlay on the map, users are shown the exact population growth and the respective names of countries, districts or regions, which contributes to a better understanding of demographic developments. An integrated legend makes it possible to highlight areas with similar growth.
