Austria's women narrowly fail: 3x3 World Cup dream shattered!

Austria's women's basketball team made a disappointing start at the 3×3 World Championship in Mongolia. The team took part in this top-class tournament for the first time, but they were denied the longed-for promotion to the knockout phase. On Wednesday, the team narrowly lost 11:12 to Hungary after previously losing 15:20 to Canada and 15:16 to France. Particularly noteworthy is the performance of 18-year-old Sina Höllerl, who scored 11 points against Latvia and became the best thrower of the game. Nevertheless, it was not enough for a place in the top three of the group, while Hungary prevailed against Canada and booked their ticket to the knockout phase. Laola1 reported.

The Austrian men's team, on the other hand, is enjoying more success. They shocked the Olympic silver medalists from France with a 17:13 victory. This came after they lost 19-22 to Canada in their first game. An outstanding player was Toni Blazan, who was the top scorer against both Canada (8 points) and France (9 points). Unfortunately, there was also bad news: Matthias Linortner injured his knee in the game against France, and an MRI scan will reveal the severity of the injury. Austria's men can now secure promotion with a win against Puerto Rico or China. Ö24 reported.

Challenges and opportunities

For the women it is clear that their second round of the game was decisive. A possible victory for Sina Höllerl was revoked after video study, which made the close developments even more frustrating. However, the last games against Hungary and Latvia still offered the players a chance to reach the knockout phase. The games were broadcast live on ORF Sport+, giving the audience the opportunity to follow every exciting moment. Unfortunately, it was ultimately not enough to advance in the group, which increased the team's disappointment.

In the global context of 3×3 basketball, the Austrian players are not alone. There were exciting moments at the last Olympic Games when the German 3×3 basketball players won their first Olympic match against the USA with 17:13. The competition for medals will continue to be enormous as 3×3 basketball continues to grow in popularity. In this format, three players per team play and the game lasts ten minutes or until one team scores 21 points. Sports show complements the context.
