Macron faces the challenge: New Prime Minister on Friday!
Frankreich - France is on the edge of a political earthquake! President Emmanuel Macron will appoint a new prime minister on Friday morning, and the tension could not be greater. After the resignation of Michel Barnier, who was only in office for three months - the shortest term of office of a prime minister in modern French history - the country fell into a political crisis that is already the second within just six months.
The message comes directly from the Elysee Palace, where on Thursday after Macron's early return from Poland: "The statement on the appointment of the Prime Minister will be published tomorrow morning." Barnier resigned after both the extreme rights and the left had voted against his government. A dramatic setback for Macron, which now has to deal with an angry public and a disputed political landscape.
Who will be the new prime minister?
Speculation about Barnier’s successor is in full swing! Macron’s supposed favorite, the experienced center politician François Bayrou, is already causing excitement. The left is skeptical of its nomination, while the rights, led by ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy, does not like him either. A hot iron for Macron that urgently needs stability!
But Bayrou is not the only candidate in the race. The former socialist prime minister Bernard Cazeneuve, the current Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu, a loyal Macron supporter, and former foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian are also under discussion. And not to forget Roland Lucure, the former Minister of Industry - but his nomination could continue to apply the rights!
public anger and political uncertainty
The public mood in France is tense. A survey by Elabe shows that over two thirds of the respondents want an agreement between the politicians instead of overthrowing a new government. But trust in the political class is low: Almost the same number does not believe that an agreement can be reached. In another ifop poll, the right-wing extremist Marine Le Pen already has 35 percent support in the first round of a future presidential election-even though its party was not included in the government negotiations!
Macron is under pressure! Oppositional even call for his resignation in the middle of this political and economic crisis, while the budget has not yet been passed by Parliament in 2025. In a television speech, however, the president emphasized that he would remain until the end of his five -year term in May 2027. The question remains: can he smooth the waves and lead France out of this crisis?
