Huge cocaine find in the port: 153 kilos of drugs exposed!

In the port of Wilhelmshaven, an important drug discovery was made: investigators discovered 153 kilograms of cocaine during a routine control of a cargo ship from Colombia. The drugs were stowed in five packages wrapped with fishing nets and the street sales value is in the million area. The Hannover customs investigation office described the find as an important blow to international drug trafficking.

The discovery was achieved through the use of modern technology and the support of a noise -pure dog. Now the public prosecutor and the police are investigating the backers of the smuggling. The drug trafficking in the North Sea shows a worrying increase, as can also be seen in an earlier incident: 25 kilograms of cocaine were recently found on a beach on Sylt, and in December 150 kilograms were already secured on the coasts of Föhr, Amrum and Sylt. Investigators suspect that the packages may come from failed smugglers or risky maneuvers. The customs warns holidaymakers and locals not to touch themselves, but to inform the police or customs themselves, such as moin.de reported.

rising amounts of drugs in European space

The find in Wilhelmshaven is part of a worrying trend. In 2023, record quantities of smuggled cocaine were secured in European seaports, especially in the port of Hamburg. According to Hans-Joachim Leon, the head of the drug control of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), a decline in securing numbers is forecast for 2024. In Belgium and the Netherlands, drastic declines can already be observed in securing securities in the first half of 2024. The Dutch customs reported a decrease of 40 percent, while the Belgian authorities report a decline from 43 to 22 tons in the port of Antwerp.

It is worrying that this decline is not due to a sunken drug smuggling from South America, but to the rapidly adaptable methods of organized crime. New smuggling techniques, such as throwing cocaine off the coast, make the discovery difficult. If a cartel reaches chemical conversions of the cocaine, for example in wood pellets or coal, this becomes an additional challenge for the authorities. Despite the changes, the offer, price and purity of the cocaine remain stable. The background and developments were dealt with in the documentary "The cocaine war", which is broadcast in the first at 9:45 p.m., as Tagesschau.de reported.
