Equalism of Alawites: Current appeals to the UN!

A dramatic call to immediate intervention has shaken the international community: The Turkish cultural community in Austria (TKG Think Tank) has directed an urgent petition to the United Nations in order to end the brutal attacks on the Syrian-Arabic Alawites. In its letter, which was published on December 30, 2024, the TKG describes the horrible massacre that suffers this community from the pressure of radical groups such as the Islamic State and Al Nusra. The Alawites argue that the systematic attacks on their community are clearly to be regarded as serious violations of international law, especially since they have been subjected to targeted persecution since the takeover by the HTS government. Supported by several non -governmental organizations in Europe, the petition demands recognition of this violence as a humanitarian crisis and calls for immediately measures to prevent genocide and the creation of humanitarian corridors. This campaign not only illustrates the emergency situation of the Alawites in Syria, but also calls on the EU to act, as from information from the European Parliament emerges. There, the right of citizens to submit petitions are emphasized as a fundamental right that offers the opportunity to take concerns directly to the parliamentarians and thus draw attention to important topics.

The UN and the EU are now under pressure to react to these dramatic calls and take measures to put an end to the ongoing attacks on the Alawites and other minorities in Syria. Without action, the situation could become even more catastrophic, while the voices of the persecuted continue to request according to justice.
