Three dead in Israeli shelling: Humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip escalates!

On June 2, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in the Gaza Strip in which at least three Palestinians were killed by Israeli shelling near a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid distribution point. Dozens of other people suffered injuries, local health authorities reported. The Israeli military has now included the incident in its investigation and said it was aware of the reports. The incident occurred about a kilometer from the GHF distribution point, but no fatalities or injuries were reported, GHF said.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was “appalled” by these incidents and called for an independent investigation. The situation in the Gaza Strip remains extremely tense. According to health authorities, 51 people were killed by Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours, while the number of injured people is estimated at around 500.

Humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip

The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is the worst crisis since the beginning of the current conflict. According to the UN, more than two million people there are at risk of hunger, a situation that has worsened after Israel blocked aid deliveries for 11 weeks. The number of deaths in the Gaza Strip is particularly worrying: since the beginning of the conflict, which began with an attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, more than 54,000 Palestinians have been on the list of victims, with around 70 percent of these fatalities being women and children [bpb.de].

Neighboring countries, particularly Egypt and Jordan, are also affected by the destabilizing consequences of the conflict. Over 80 percent of the population, equivalent to around 1.7 million people, are internally displaced and live in catastrophic conditions near the border with Egypt.

Military conflicts and international reactions

The military clashes have intensified in recent weeks. The Israeli military has declared that it has attacked numerous targets and eliminated terrorists by expanding its ground offensive. At the same time, Hamas's extensive tunnel network remains intact, maintaining the organization's ability to fire rockets into Israel.

The international community is watching the developments with concern. Guterres called for an immediate end to the fighting and a sustainable peace settlement, while in the last 24 hours alone the number of casualties in Jabalia in northern Gaza has risen to at least 16. The USA and the EU are significantly involved in the global political discussion in order to find a solution to the long-lasting Middle East conflict, which has a history of around 100 years.

With these developments, the urgent need for humanitarian aid and a political solution to offer the people of the Gaza Strip a perspective is becoming increasingly clear. As fighting continues, calls for peace and stability in the region remain unfulfilled.
