BPG Group starts in Vienna: New era of raw material supply begins!
On October 27, 2025, the BPG Group celebrated its official launch in Austria at the Palais Ferstel in Vienna. Around 140 guests from various areas, including politics, business, diplomacy and media, took part in the festive event. CEO Ernst Grissemann and Federal Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer welcomed those present, with the minister joining in via video. State Secretary Alexander Pröll, who was on site, emphasized the growing importance of raw materials as a central location factor.
The guests also included prominent personalities such as former minister Elisabeth Köstinger and the ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman, Yousuf Ahmed Al Jabri. In his speech, Alexander Pröll emphasized the need for secure, sustainable and independent access to raw materials in Europe, which is in line with the goals of the BPG Group. The aim is to develop processes for recovering raw materials such as copper, gold and silver from mining waste.
Research and development in focus
Another focus of the BPG Group is environmental cleanup. Grissemann emphasized that the company wants to make these resources accessible to a broader audience. Klaus Müller from the Montanuniversität Leoben emphasized the high quality of life and the strategically advantageous location of Austria, which are important for research and development. Peter Moser spoke in a similar vein, emphasizing the relevance of cooperation for sustainable raw material extraction.
Austria's National Council member Heinrich Himmer described the BPG Group's market entry as an enrichment for Vienna and Austria. However, geopolitical developments in the supply of raw materials make it clear how dependent Europe is on external suppliers.
Strategic raw materials policy in Europe
In the context of this dependency, the “Master Plan for Raw Materials 2030” is of great importance. It was developed by the Federal Ministry of Finance as a raw materials strategy for Austria. The aim of this strategy is to ensure the responsible and secure supply of primary and secondary mineral raw materials. The importance of the domestic resource base is reinforced by the pandemic-related shortages and geopolitical events.
What is particularly noteworthy is that by 2030 the EU plans to cover 10 percent of the need for strategic raw materials from its own mining and to purchase 40 percent of processed raw material products from the EU. The Critical Raw Materials Regulation, which comes into force on May 23, 2024, supports this with measures to promote circular economy and accelerated approval of raw materials projects.
The European “Critical Raw Materials Act” aims to create a coordinated European strategy to strengthen the supply of raw materials. This also includes the establishment of a European Committee for Critical Raw Materials, which will prioritize strategic projects.
The BPG Group wants to actively contribute to the European raw material base and secure the resources for economic and ecological transformation. The sustainable extraction, processing and use of both domestic and imported raw materials is emphasized, which is in line with the master plan and the EU's goals.
In conclusion, it can be said that with its commitment the BPG Group not only wants to make a contribution to the supply of raw materials in Austria and Europe, but also wants to address the challenges of the current decade.
