Now it starts: Ceremony for the commissioning of the Salzburg line!
On May 28, 2025, the long-awaited commissioning of the Salzburg line was announced, which is considered one of the most important electricity infrastructure projects in Austria. After 77 months of approval procedures and five years of intensive construction work, the ceremony for the ceremonial commissioning is now imminent. This will take place on June 5, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the construction warehouse lot 3, Pass Lueg Straße 14, in 5451werfen.
The aim of the project is to significantly improve security of supply at both regional and national levels. The Salzburg line will help stabilize the existing power grid and support the integration of renewable energy sources. Various experts agree that expanding infrastructure is crucial in order to balance energy needs with a changing energy system. This also underlines the importance of establishing security of supply as a central cornerstone in energy policy, as stated by Austria's energy is emphasized.
Commissioning ceremony
The commissioning ceremony will begin with an official part in which, among others, Gerhard Christiner and Marcus Karger, board members of APG, will be welcomed. Before that, visitors can enter the festival area from 9:45 a.m. Various speeches and a panel discussion with prominent guests are planned between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., including Wilfried Haslauer, Michael Strugl and Peter Kollmann. The official part of the event will end with a joint lunch at 1:00 p.m.
Extensive dismantling work
In parallel with the commissioning of the Salzburg line, extensive dismantling work is underway as part of the project. A total of 65 kilometers of lines and 229 masts will be dismantled in Salzburg. These dismantling operations are part of the EIA approval and will take place in seven phases. The lines to be dismantled include, among others, the 220 kV line UW Salzburg - NK Tauern as well as various 110 kV lines that were already affected by previous construction site developments, such as from APG communicated.
The necessary infrastructural adjustments are essential to ensure a stable power supply. The expansion of infrastructure is not only a response to increasing generation from renewable energy sources, but also a strategic measure to ensure secured capacity in the electricity grid as older plants are decommissioned in the coming years. The need for such measures is also justified by the fact that thermal power plants will remain crucial for security of supply until 2030.
Interested visitors are invited to take part in the event, but must register in advance. The success of the Salzburg line is seen as a milestone for Austria's future energy supply and could serve as a model for similar projects in other regions.
