Graz sets signs: no power shutdowns and reduction in network tariffs!
The city of Graz, under the direction of Mayor Elke Kahr, sets a strong sign against increasing energy costs. On December 6th it was announced that in the winter of 2024 there will be no electricity and heating shutdowns due to the default of payment. This applies to the period from December 1st to February 28th and affects household customers of Energie Graz. This measure is not new, but a tradition that should ensure that nobody has to do without light and warmth in the cold season, such as OE24 Reported .
In addition, the city has set up a hardship fund of one million euros, which in particular should benefit households in difficult financial positions. Unlike in previous years, where the support for income was bound, people who have so far been unable to receive any help. The social welfare office is available to those affected for inquiries. The measures are particularly important because energy costs in Styria continue to increase, while Graz lowers the network tariffs by 4.6 percent. This reduction brings an average family annual savings of around 15 euros, while other regions in Styria have to pay an average of 102 euros more, such as 5min.at Reported .
economic efficiency and social responsibility
Although the city of Graz is reducing network tariffs, it continues to invest around 10 million euros annually in the modernization of the electricity infrastructure. Graz citizens can therefore rely on a stable network supply, even in economically challenging times. Mayor Kahr emphasizes that it is essential to avoid hardship and at the same time take the social concerns of the citizens seriously: "The economic crisis also affects many Grazer," she says.
With this strategic direction, Graz shows that social responsibility and economic efficiency can go hand in hand, which is of great importance in the current situation.
