The year 2025 will be dedicated to Johann Strauss and will be celebrated with numerous events that express the diversity of his work. April 5th marks the 150th anniversary of the premiere of his famous operetta “Die Fledermaus”. For this occasion, the Johann Strauss 2025 team is organizing a festival in the MuseumsQuartier Vienna, which has numerous activities in store for the public. The festival week is accompanied by impressive musical highlights, including a special performance of “Die Fledermaus” in Janoska style and a biodiversity show with DJ Dominik Eulberg. Events are planned for younger visitors in the Jungle Vienna and in the ZOOM Children's Museum. In addition, the MuseumsQuartier will be transformed into a light show through an audiovisual experience from MODULUX.

Sporting challenges and enjoyment of art

The bat-like highlight of the event is the traditional bat run as part of the Vienna City Marathon on April 6th, during which a world record attempt begins: 2025 couples should dance in three-quarter time. Star percussionist Martin Grubinger will play live on several drum sets during the marathon, combining the sporting activities with musical energy.

On April 11th, the theater performance “ROMABARON – KEIN Z******BARON” will premiere at the Tanzquartier Wien, followed by the premiere of Strauss’ lesser-known operetta “Waldmeister” from April 25th, which will be staged by the Gärtnerplatztheater Munich. The Johann Strauss Festival Year 2025, which is organized by Johann.Strauss-Festjahr2025 GmbH, a Wien Holding company, offers a wide range of activities. Director Roland Geyer presented the entire spring/summer program, which, in addition to operettas, also includes drama, theater, dance and concerts. The special highlights include a new “mice category” for children at the Vienna City Marathon and innovative productions such as “Indigo and the 40 Robbers” and “Princess Ninetta” by the Nesterval theater ensemble.

The city of Vienna and its cultural institutions have started the festival year with a lot of enthusiasm, setting an impressive example with events at a total of 69 different locations. In addition to the classical productions, experimental performances and installations are also planned that highlight Johann Strauss' extensive artistic range. Top-class concerts, including the New Year's Concert and the Remembrance Concert, are also on the program.
