Felix Gall narrowly misses stage victory at Paris-Nice – The final battle!
Felix Gall, the talented professional cyclist from East Tyrol, almost achieved his first stage victory since the Tour de France 2023 on Sunday in the last section of the prestigious Paris-Nice long-distance journey. Only seconds separated him from glory when he crossed the finish line in third place, behind Americans Magnus Sheffield and Matteo Jorgenson Dolomitenstadt reported. After a disappointing early stage, where Gall struggled in cold and wet weather, particularly on Wednesday, he put in an impressive performance on the penultimate day, climbing to sixth place in the sleet.
The final stage presented major challenges. In the mountainous hinterland of Nice, Gall had temporarily left Jorgenson behind and was threateningly closing in on Sheffield. But the fact that he then lost touch with Jorgenson made the difference. "That was the maximum, the other two were very strong. I tried it in the final. Maybe I used a little too much energy beforehand, but I'm very happy that I was able to finish the race like that," said Gall after the race, as did Von Krone reports. Ultimately, he was around half a minute behind Sheffield and six seconds behind Jorgenson, who had already won the race in his adopted hometown the previous year. Despite the difficulties, Gall's performance in this high-profile World Tour race was encouraging as he improved to 18th overall.
