Train accident in Schiffdorf: 52 passengers evacuated after collision!
On October 19, 2024, a serious incident occurred at the level crossing in Wehdeler Feldmark when a passenger train collided with a Volkswagen Touran. The accident occurred at around 3:13 p.m. when the train, traveling at a speed of around 80 km/h, collided with the car that was about to cross the tracks. The impact threw the car off the road and the engine block tore off. Fortunately, the two occupants of the vehicle were uninjured and did not require hospitalization.
The Wehdel local fire department as well as the police and emergency services were immediately alerted. When they arrived, the emergency services confirmed the accident report. The fire department initially ensured safety and removed the battery from the damaged vehicle. There were 52 passengers inside the train, which was on the way to Bremerhaven. While the fire brigade was checking the safety of the travelers, a woman reported feeling unwell, but the all-clear was quickly given here too.
Evacuation of passengers
The situation required an evacuation after an inspection of the train revealed that it could no longer continue due to damage. The railway manager who arrived on site decided, together with the emergency services, to bring the passengers to safety. The fire department then alerted the Geestenseth local fire department to carry out the evacuation with additional forces.
Several taxis were organized to transport passengers and were provided in close coordination with the railway. After the successful evacuation of all passengers, which took around two and a half hours, the rescue efforts were completed by the fire department at around 5:35 p.m.
The exact causes of the accident are still unclear, and the material damage cannot yet be quantified. For further information on this incident and any possible developments, it is advisable to follow the coverage on www.presseportal.de to keep an eye on.
