Customs action in Frankfurt (Oder): minimum wage violations uncovered!

Frankfurt (Oder) (ots)– It’s a massive clash against undeclared work! On October 17, 2024, 88 courageous officers from the financial control department of undeclared work in the main customs office in Frankfurt (Oder) ensured a spectacular operation that made waves throughout Germany and even Europe! As part of an intensive audit coordinated by the European Labor Authority (ELA), minimum wage watchdogs were tasked with ensuring compliance with the statutory minimum wage, and there were no exceptions!

Customs officials took part in the exams in over 21 EU member states, with the focus on Germany. 249 employees were surveyed and employers were not only in the spotlight for inspections, but also had to provide their business documents. And the results are explosive: 11 criminal proceedings have already been initiated - including 7 for violations of residence rights. In three other cases there is solid evidence of violations of the minimum wage law!

Exams continue!

This testing campaign is just the beginning! After the initial investigation, the customs officers will delve deeper into the employers' files in order to further investigate violations of the minimum wage. The statutory minimum wage, which has been in force in Germany since January 1, 2015, has been steadily increased and is now 12.41 euros gross per hour. The investigations show how seriously the issue of minimum wage is being treated, and it will be exciting to see what comes to light in the coming evaluations!

The strict line against wage dumping is more than just a symbolic act. With strict controls and immediate consequences, a signal is sent: Anyone who doesn't follow the rules will be exposed! And this is just the beginning of a comprehensive investigation into the shadow economy!
