Destruction in Beirut: Caritas warns of continued attacks!
In a devastating incident in southern Beirut, the buildings of Caritas International's partner organization Amel were severely damaged. This bombardment, which occurred two days ago in the Chiyah and Hay El Selloum region, hit the community center that provided important programs for children and youth. The military crackdown is not only an attack on buildings, but also a brutal blow to the hope and future of young people locally. Oliver Müller, the head of Caritas International, expressed shock at the repeated attacks on their partners in Lebanon and called for an immediate end to the bombings: “We are extremely concerned that our partners have become the target of such attacks again.”
Humanitarian teams in action
The attacks have caused around 1.2 million people to flee and are now seeking shelter in emergency shelters. The brave helpers from Amel are currently providing humanitarian aid under extreme conditions. “The work of our colleagues continues in mobile teams,” says Christin Mothsche, who coordinates the assistance from Germany. These teams care for internally displaced people and provide urgently needed medical care. With the number of injured already exceeding 11,500, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the need for immediate support is growing.
Oliver Müller praised the unwavering determination of the Caritas team, which continues to be there for those in need despite the danger. "The colleagues from our partner organizations deserve the greatest respect. Continuing to stand by the people under such circumstances is admirable," said Müller, while calling for an immediate end to the bombing and the protection of humanitarian workers. The situation remains tense, the number of victims is rising, and the world is watching. Every support is now crucial - Caritas international is therefore urgently asking for donations for Lebanon in order to provide help and ensure the survival of those affected.
