Wolfgang Borst: Hofheim honors a mayor with heart and vision
At a ceremonial meeting of the city council, Wolfgang Borst was made an honorary citizen of the city of Hofheim. The master electrician and entrepreneur served as mayor for three terms - from 2005 to 2023. It was an unexpected turn in his career, but Borst's tireless commitment to the city has made him a central figure in local politics. He was a popular mayor who received over 90 percent of the vote in his re-elections in 2011 and 2017, as Mayor Alexander Bergmann reported. In his laudatory speech, Bergmann highlighted Borst's diverse influence, particularly through the founding of the Hofheim Alliance, which was awarded the European Village Renewal Prize. Borst leaves a strong legacy and is the city's only living honorary citizen.
New mayor takes the helm
With an impressive election result of 87 percent, Alexander Bergmann succeeded Wolfgang Borst as mayor of Hofheim on Sunday. Bergmann, who will take office on February 9, 2023, promises to work on expanding renewable energy and improving digital infrastructure. In his speech, he thanked the voters for their trust and promised to listen to citizens' concerns. Special priority will be given to maintaining the indoor swimming pool and the schools in the city. In addition, Bergmann plans to continue the successful development of the Hofheimer Allianz and make the marketplace more lively. Again Franconian day reports, the new mayor wants to carry out his administration in close cooperation with the citizens and promises not to put on a one-man show.
