Red alert for Windows 10 users! On October 14, 2025, Microsoft will finally end security support for the now aging operating system. This opens up a veritable land of milk and honey for hackers, as over 32 million devices in Germany are still equipped with Windows 10. How oe24 reported, security experts strongly recommend switching to Windows 11 quickly. Users can only be protected from the increasing threat of cyber attacks with the current operating system, as Windows 11 is regularly provided with security updates.

Danger from outdated software

Experts warn that the situation could have drastic consequences. How t3n reported that there would be a risk of a “security fiasco” if users hesitated and delayed the switch. While corporate customers can purchase a three-year extension of support, private individuals have to be prepared for a one-year extension. However, these paid upgrades will only close critical security gaps and do not provide long-term protection. IT expert Thorsten Urbanski from Eset therefore recommends acting immediately and switching to either Windows 11 or an alternative operating system.

Time is of the essence: Before the end of support for Windows 7 2020, many users made the switch more quickly. In today's situation, however, users in Germany are noticeably slow in migrating to more modern systems. Experts warn that without timely measures there is a risk of serious security risks and possible data loss, as operating systems such as Windows 8.1 or even XP that are no longer updated can easily become the target of cyber attacks. A quick update could be the key to a secure digital life.
