US Democrats mobilize voters in Mainz and Wiesbaden: Tension is rising!

An exciting Tuesday for the American community in Germany! They have until midnight to cast their votes for the upcoming US elections. In Mainz, Wiesbaden and Ingelheim, the Democrats Abroad are passionately mobilizing their voters. Angela Fobbs, the 58-year-old chairwoman of the Mainz-Wiesbaden chapter, is full of energy and commitment. “We were very active in the region this year,” she beams as she talks about the intensive election campaigns.

With approximately 700 members and thousands of American citizens in Wiesbaden, the chapter has a clear mission: to encourage as many voters as possible to cast their ballots. Fobbs and her team set up at least 12 campaign booths in busy pedestrian areas, distributed flyers and informed countless Americans about registering and receiving ballots. “Voting is possible until midnight on Tuesday!” she emphasizes, even though she has already cast her vote.

Fear of Trump and hope for Harris

Fobbs has lived in Germany for 25 years and has a clear opinion: “A future with Donald Trump as US President scares me.” Their hope lies with Kamala Harris. “The US has been a divided country since 2016, and I hope we will be united again if she wins.” For Fobbs, every vote is crucial, especially those of Americans abroad, who are extremely important in such a close election. Together with her fellow campaigners, she will follow the election results in a restaurant in Wiesbaden. “It will be super exciting!” she is sure.

But it's not just the Democrats who are active. The Republicans are also campaigning for their party outside the USA. The Republicans Overseas are also campaigning for votes, but they are not regionally organized like the Democrats. The election campaign in Germany is in full swing and the tension is rising!
