Unterallgäu starts regional work: A milestone for the energy transition!
The Unterallgäu district is on the verge of an exciting new beginning! The district committee decided to establish “Regionalwerk Unterallgäu GmbH” on December 16th. This is not just a formal step, but a powerful signal for the future of energy supply in the region!
District Administrator Alex Eder is enthusiastic about this decision and proudly announces that over 20 communities have already pledged their support. “We can use this to establish the regional plant,” he explains. This plant is seen as the key to the energy transition in the district and aims to sustainably cover the growing energy needs. "Our answer to the challenges of the energy transition is the regional plant. We are not only concerned with electricity generation, but also with important future issues such as energy storage," adds Eder.
Financial support and participation
The district is providing start-up capital of up to 62,000 euros for the founding and has appointed District Administrator Eder as a representative on the supervisory board. The idea for the regional work originally came from the Free Voters faction, which submitted the application in July 2022. The SPD-FDP parliamentary group also joined later. The district and 26 municipalities have already drawn up a business plan and statutes. But that's not all: until December 4th, other communities also have the opportunity to take part in this pioneering project!
In addition to this exciting project, there is further news from the district council: The district is investing 302,000 euros in fire brigade funding for the communities of Erkheim, Türkheim and Mindelheim. In addition, the district senior citizens' homes will enjoy a surplus of 336,000 euros in 2023, despite the challenges posed by the shortage of skilled workers in nursing. The district's annual accounts closed at 183.8 million euros, while the debt level was reduced by 900,000 euros to 4.2 million euros. A truly dynamic year for Unterallgäu!
