Tyrol's health professions under pressure: MTD President calls for reforms!

In a heated debate about the salary reform in the health sector, Constance Schlegl, interim president of MTD-Austria, has practiced sharp criticism of the Tyrolean state government. During an online press conference, she described the ignoring medical-therapeutic professions, which also include dietologists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, as "absolutely unacceptable". Schlegl is particularly disturbed by the fact that these professions were not even mentioned in the measures to upgrade the health sector, as reported on tirol.orf.at

Required re-evaluation of the MTD professions

Schlegl called for a comprehensive re-evaluation of the MTD professions and spoke out for a performance-oriented salary and allowance system. Her main argument: "MTD professions in Austria require academic training, for example in Germany". This was criticized as an unequal treatment of the professions, which, according to the legal advisor Wolfram Proksch, could also be legally checked. If the Tyrolean state government does not respond to the claims, MTD-Austria plans to check legal steps and increase the pressure.

While the State Councilor Hagele defended the planned adjustments and emphasized that many professional groups would benefit from the new salary model, Birgit Seidl, chair of the Tyrol Central Center, criticized the fact that numerous professional groups were empty. The salary reform, which comes into force on January 1, 2025, also includes a payout of 18.3 million euros for health professions in the public service, but the uncertainty remains great, as mtd-austria.at reports.
