Court stops memorial: AfD criticism remains, but not without restrictions!
Court stops memorial: AfD criticism remains, but not without restrictions!
Weimar, Deutschland - A dramatic legal dispute around the Buchenwald memorial has pushed the Thuringian AfD into the defensive! The Weimar administrative court partially dismissed the party's application for omission. The memorial, which sent a concerned letter to the voters before the state election, had opposed the AfD and published a call not to choose the party. But the court decided that this call went too far and violated the neutrality requirement. A corresponding sentence must be removed from the foundation's website!
the worried letter
The letter from Memorial Head of Jens-Christian Wagner, who urged the Thuringian voters, is in the center of the dispute. He expressed that the AfD wanted to repay the suffering of the victims of National Socialism. The court confirmed that Wagner's statements are based on facts and represent an appropriate assessment. Particularly explosive: The Thuringian AfD state chief Björn Höcke is classified as a secured right-wing extremist, which the memorial cannot leave uncommented.
The AfD reacted indignantly and described Wagner's statements as false claims. However, the court saw it as permissible that Wagner accused the AfD positive references to National Socialism, especially with regard to quotes from Franz Langheinrich, which appeared in the AfD election program. Wagner left no doubt that the memorial cannot remain neutral against history revisionist positions. The Thuringian AfD announced that the court order check and possibly go into revision. Another blow to the AfD and a clear indication that the memorial will be determined to commemorate the victims of National Socialism!
