175 years of Michaelistift Gefell: a place full of hope and education

Gefell, Deutschland - A big anniversary is celebrated: 175 years of Michaelistift Gefell! The oldest foundation in Central Germany proudly looks back on a moving story that can now be found in a newly revised chronicle. Originally introduced for the 160th anniversary, the chronicle has now been updated for the 175th anniversary and offers exciting insights into the moving stories of the residents. The pen has developed from its roots in Gefell to an institution that shines far beyond the city limits.

In the heart of Gefell, the Michaelistift has been causing a safe home for people with disabilities for decades. There are currently 65 women and men of different ages. On the site there is also a diaconal day care and the life culture house as a meeting point. Since 1999 the influence of the abbey has even extended to Bad Lobenstein, where the Michaelis School was inaugurated. This includes a Montessori-oriented primary school and the youngest Evangelical Community School in Weimar, which was opened in 2023 and is currently teaching 37 children in inclusive groups.

The three -year development of the schools reflects the spirit of the establishment of the Michaelistif by Pastor Bauerfeind, which was launched in 1849.
