Jena cultural scene united: 500,000 euros required for the future!

jena. alarm level red for the free cultural scene! Dance theater, psycho-choir, children's and youth circus- the creative minds of Jenas stand on the edge of the abyss and fight for their existence. At a dramatic meeting in the artistic evening school, it became clear that the clubs are at the limit and urgently need support!

The Situation is serious! Representatives of the Jena cultural initiatives require an annual additional requirement of 500,000 euros, while the city only promises 200,000 euros. "We have been wearing wear for years," explains Anne Dünger from the Free Stage of Jena. The committed cultural workers often work under precarious conditions and hardly earn more than the minimum wage. The consequences of pandemic are still noticeable, and without volunteering the offers could hardly be maintained. But here too there is a crisis: fewer and fewer people have to do more and more!

demands of the cultural scene

Time is pushing! The actors of the free scene, including the Momolo and the Dance Theater Jena, want to draw attention to their precarious situation with a joint position paper. They demand not only the recognition of the additional requirement, but also the creation of a stabilization fund in order to cushion rent increases and raise salaries. "We need multi -year institutional grants to ensure planning security," says Nadine Jacobi from the artistic evening school.

The ongoing grant negotiations between Jenakultur and the city are crucial. The head of culture Johannes Schleussner (SPD) and the cultural committee must now act! The current sum of 200,000 euros for the free scene is not understandable and is far from sufficient. "We are not a supplicant, but an essential part of cultural life in Jena," emphasizes Maximilian Lörzer from the psycho-choir. The cultural scene demands transparency and open communication in order to continue its valuable work in the future!
