Jena.A new star in the university sky: Andreas Marx officially took over the presidency of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena on Monday, October 28th! This momentous moment was duly celebrated in a glittering ceremony full of solemn speeches and warm congratulations from Mayor Nitzsche and Science Minister Tiefensee.
With pride and gratitude, Marx appeared in front of his audience and declared: “It is a special honor and pleasure for me to be able to stand before you today as President of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.” His vision? To make Jena flourish even further nationally and internationally as a shining beacon of science! This commitment motivated him from the start and he calls on everyone at the university to work together to get the best out of this outstanding location.
Diverse challenges for the new president
What lies ahead is not without challenges! In his speech, University Council Chairman Wolfgang Marquardt reported on the high expectations placed on the new president. His leadership will play a crucial role. “I wish you much success and a happy hand!” he shouted to Marx. Minister Tiefensee also encouraged the new leader to especially feel the responsibility and the burden that comes with it. He sees Marx as an approachable personality who is ready to take on any challenge.
The symbiosis between university and city will continue! Mayor Nitzsche also emphasized this in his speech at the induction ceremony. The long tradition of ceremonial investiture, which dates back to the 16th century, sets an example of the university's commitment to the region. Marx was ceremoniously presented with a rector's coat, barrette and chain of office, which underlined the weight and importance of his new office.
