Traffic chaos in Zschernitzsch: residents fear for their security!
Altenburger Land. In a dramatic increase in traffic, the small village of Zschernitzsch near Schmölln has lost peace! Since Monday, over 800 vehicles per hour have been flocking through the streets of the place, which only counts 230 inhabitants. Steffen Weber, a concerned resident, is shocked: "There are even 40-tonneys go through-although only 3.5 tons are allowed!" The reason? The full closure of the B7 at Schmölln forces drivers to look for alternative routes, and many land in Zschernitzsch.
The official diversion via Altkirchen or Gößnitz is badly signposted and is not displayed correctly by navigation systems. "Nowadays, people drive with navigation system and not to describe," says Jens Pamler, another resident who observes the chaotic conditions. Despite a newly signposted truck ban in Zschernitzsch, the village remains a popular bypass route. The residents are alerted: "Some pensioners have said that they no longer dare to take to the streets," reports Weber. The danger is real and the children no longer play outside.
Meeting with authorities should bring solution
The situation became clear during an inspection with around 50 residents and official representatives. "They could see how much traffic there is," says Weber. The authorities plan to better exploit the blocking of the B7, but Pamler remains skeptical: "As long as the passage for digital navigation services is displayed, nothing will change." Another proposal was to call the police more often to carry out speed controls.
Oliver Teichmann from the Schmöllner Road Traffic Authority confirmed: "The truck ban is a good beginning." It is currently being checked whether the bypass via the village on Google Maps can be blocked. "A solution should be found within the next week," promises Teichmann. The residents hope for quick measures, because the B7 remains closed until the end of December - and the patience of the villagers is at the end!
