Diving accident in Lake Zug: Two men taken to hospital after emergency ascent!

On Friday, March 21, 2025, there was a dramatic diving accident at 4 p.m. at the Chlausenegg diving site in Arth. Two men aged 63 and 25, who were diving around 40 meters deep in Lake Zug, experienced a critical situation when the older diver suddenly ascended uncontrollably and quickly. To avoid possible complications, the 25-year-old also decided to make an emergency ascent, albeit at a slower speed. Despite his cautious approach, he immediately experienced symptoms of decompression sickness after the ascent, prompting the two divers to alert emergency services Zug newspaper reported.

After initial medical treatment on site, the men were flown by helicopter to a special clinic in Überlingen, Germany, which has a pressure chamber to treat decompression sickness. Fortunately, both divers were able to leave the clinic uninjured the following day. During the rescue work, Zugerstrasse had to be closed in both directions for around an hour, which led to backlogs. The Schwyz cantonal police have initiated an investigation into the exact cause of the accident in order to avoid further incidents in the future Fireworld reported.
