Talented artists present themselves in the new exhibition in Iserlohn!

The art scene is flourishing in a creative atmosphere. On Thursday, Samuel Salazzo from Essen began setting up his exhibition “Dissolving Views”. The Märkischen Cultural Conference scholarship not only offered him financial stability, but also space for artistic growth. “A year like this without financial worries is not a given for many artists,” emphasizes Salazzo. His artistic work is based on collages, for which he draws elements from sculpture anthologies, museum catalogs as well as archaeological and fine art.

Six talented artists were selected from around 40 applicants to compete for the coveted Märkisches Scholarship for Fine Arts 2025 in the painting category. The prize of 12,000 euros is awarded annually to promising artists. The decision on the award is made before the original works, after a jury has chosen the candidates from the proposals of the specialist professors in an initial meeting.

The jury decisions and the exciting exhibition

The jury is made up of recognized experts, including Rainer Danne from the Städtische Galerie Iserlohn and Dr. Susanne Conzen from the Lüdenscheid Municipal Gallery. The jury will announce its decision on awarding the scholarship on October 22, 2023. This will be communicated directly on the opening evening.

Insights into the exhibition show large-format, lively works such as those by Haakon Neubert, whose titles such as “Ice is awesome” or provocative statements such as “Killing fish equals work is money” are reminiscent of comics. "One of the paintings was just finished. You can even smell the paint," Dr. Conzen during a tour. The works represent the wide range of contemporary painting, which includes figurative as well as ornamental and gestural aspects.

Particularly outstanding is the work of Anne Pruy, who assembles enameled steel elements into complex installations. This possibility arises because some of its elements are so large that they cannot fit in a kiln. “The hanging requires extremely precise planning,” explained the gallery director during the tour of the exhibition.

The presentation illustrates how multifaceted the possibilities in painting are - from lyrical fine painting to massive traces of color, which creates poetic realism. Artists like Musafer Qassim and Kyuhyun Kim also help ensure that the current art scene in Germany remains lively and varied.

About the Märkische Cultural Conference

The Märkische Cultural Conference e.V. celebrates over 40 years of commitment to art and culture. Founded in 1977, it stands for the promotion of young artists and cultural life in the Märkisches Kreis. The aim is to give artists the freedom to pursue their creativity without financial restrictions and to present themselves to the public for a year. The results of these efforts are visible in the current exhibition, which will be on view until January 5, 2025.

The future of art in the Märkischer Kreis looks hopeful. Scholarship holders like Samuel Salazzo use the opportunity to realize their visions and show that art is not just a form of expression, but also an important element of social discourse. As Lokaldirekt.de reports, the exhibitions are an expression of the innovative strength of young artists in Germany.
