Syrian in Hamm: Celebrate Assad's fall - but the future remains uncertain!
On Sunday, December 8, 2024, around 600 people witnessed an euphoric momentum in the city of Hamm when they celebrated the fall of the Assad regime in Syria. Like Lippewelle reported , many of the participants are Syrian emigrants who came to Germany a decade ago. While the crowd cheered, Anas Hasan, a Syrian exile from Hamm, said concerns about the uncertain future of Syria. He refused to celebrate because he is skeptical of how the situation will develop among the new rulers. In particular, he warns of the possible returns of the newer regime, which are led by former terrorists.
Despite the difficult political circumstances associated with the fall of the regime, Hasan also shows relief that the tyrannical rule of the Assad family has ended. He recalls that countless Syrians had to fight for freedom, with thousands lost their lives. These events raise direct questions, including whether Syrian refugees should return to their home country in Germany. Hasan describes the return as personally excluded for him, since he is well integrated in Hamm and is currently working as an engineer.

Above all, the traditional Islamic theory of the agreement of truth is examined. This concept, which is called "NAFS al-AMR", could help to understand how the perception of reality is questioned, especially in crisis situations. The philosophical dimensions of these theories could be a framework for the reflection on the future of Syria and the return of refugees, since both the current and future reality have to be viewed as complex links between individual and community truths.
