Stuttgart: Europe's mineral water paradise is bubbling over!
Stuttgart, the jewel in Baden-Württemberg, is bubbling! With daily amounts of water of up to 44 million liters from the underground, the city secures the title of the second largest mineral water reserve in Europe. This pinch of freshly sparkling mineral water is the region's elixir of life that delights the palates of connoisseurs - regardless of whether it is sparkling or clear.
The refreshing secret from the underground
Dirk Thürnau, the technology mayor of Stuttgart, emphasizes that the city's centuries-old tradition of mineral water is not a matter of course. “Bad Cannstatter and Berger Mineralwasserschatz in particular are known for bubbling in incredible amounts,” he emphasizes. Only the Hungarian metropolis of Budapest can keep up with its larger reservoir and remains the undisputed European champion.
Warnings and contradictions
But not everything is all sunshine and roses! Stuttgart's secret water treasures are under pressure. They are currently extracted from 19 wells, producing over 22 million liters of mineral water, sparkling sours and healing thermal water every day. Critics of the controversial Stuttgart 21 railway project warn of dangerous consequences for the wild springs that often flow unused into the Neckar. Fear and concern are in the air, while construction work on the main train station, which is being converted largely underground, could endanger valuable water sources.
