SPD fights for jobs: prevent VW dismantling!
In a dramatic appeal, the SPD emphasized the need to stop the massive job cuts at Volkswagen! Katja Mast, the first parliamentary director of the SPD parliamentary group, has made it clear that cooperation between employees and employers in Germany is invaluable. “This form of co-determination is unique in the world,” she explained, adding that constructive dialogue between both sides is crucial to avert the threat of job losses.
The SPD is determined to fight for every single job! Mast emphasized that management mistakes should not be made on the backs of employees. “We as the SPD will fight for every job,” she shouted and announced that she would strengthen co-determination, including through initiatives for greater collective bargaining. The situation is getting worse because before the third round of collective bargaining at VW, IG Metall and the works council are pushing for a quick conclusion before Christmas.
Tension before the collective bargaining round
The negotiations are under a bleak star: VW is demanding a drastic wage cut of ten percent and plans to cancel various bonuses and allowances. There is also a risk of factory closures and redundancies! The works council's own concept could be the key to smoothing things over and securing jobs. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the future of VW employees!
