Ski jumping stronghold Oberstdorf: Bahn announces drastic travel warning!

Dramatic traffic chaos shocks travelers in the Allgäu! Oberstdorf, one of Germany's most popular holiday destinations, will initially be left behind by Deutsche Bahn's long-distance transport. The background? A devastating signal box renovation that will stop all train traffic!

With only one track available and massive cable damage in the signal box, travelers from Dortmund and Hamburg now have to do without direct connections. The railway does not specify a date for the return of the intercity trains. Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU) is concerned and is calling for a quicker solution or even an emergency signal box, otherwise this “disaster” could have catastrophic effects on the local economy!

A shock for tourism in the Allgäu

The Kleinwalsertal in Austria is also affected - there is no longer a direct connection to Oberstdorf, where tourists flock every day. “The connections were extremely attractive,” complains Ule Peter Haak from the local tourism office. The region, which was previously well connected via rail transport, is now facing a massive decline in visitors. The Swabian Chamber of Industry and Commerce warns: This construction site could significantly disadvantage the Allgäu in the competition for holiday guests.

Although the railways convey that there are “future-promising” plans to electrify the routes, the reality is currently very different. “The railway has become a service wasteland,” says a hotel operator. The bus connections may be good, but the loss of train connections is a major setback! The question remains: How long will travelers have to wait for train services to return?
