Serious accident in Essen: Technical rescue after a collision with injuries!

On the night of October 1, 2024, a serious traffic accident with several injuries occurred on Gladbecker Straße in Essen-Altenessen. At 1:17 a.m. two cars collided, affecting a total of seven people. According to initial information, when the first helpers arrived, five people had already escaped from the vehicles, but two other people were unable to get out of the cars on their own.

The Essen fire department's operations center reacted promptly and alerted a heavy rescue train as well as several ambulances and the head emergency doctor. During the initial assessment by the emergency doctor, it quickly became clear that six people had suffered minor injuries, while one male person was seriously but not life-threatening.

Technical rescue necessary

The fire department was called in to free the remaining people from the accident vehicle. With the help of hydraulic rescue equipment, the middle pillar and the rear door were removed on both sides of the car. This enabled the injured occupants to be safely rescued. The two people were then handed over to the emergency services, while others affected were already treated. Of the seven people involved, three were ultimately transported to clinics in Essen, while four slightly injured people did not have to go to hospital.

Gladbecker Strasse remained closed for around an hour and a half during the rescue work. The Essen police have started investigating the cause of the accident in order to clarify the exact course of the incident. The rapid and coordinated deployment of the rescue workers helped ensure that the injured were treated quickly and efficiently.
