Animal shelters at the limit: Schleswig-Holstein faces animal welfare collapse!
Schleswig-Holstein, Deutschland - alarm level red for the animal shelters in Schleswig-Holstein! The animal welfare associations are facing a dramatic financial and personnel collapse! The state association of the German Animal Welfare Association, which represents 23 animal welfare associations with 21 animal shelters and has around 9,700 members, raises the alarm. These shelter spaces for animals have been based on inadequate municipal payments for their services for years and are now under extreme pressure due to the rapidly increasing costs-heated by the Ukraine war and the new fee schedule of veterinarians. This critical location not only makes it difficult to accommodate the animals, but also endangers the existence of the animal shelters themselves!
Financing and care in the crisis The animal shelter landscape in Schleswig-Holstein is exposed to a massive increase to animals to be supplied. While the municipalities often only cover part of the actual supply costs for found animals, the animal welfare associations have to finance the rest from donations. These funds are now missing for essential tasks such as maintenance measures and the supply of wild animals. In addition, the intended funding for urgently required construction measures will be completely canceled in 2025. This means that the animal welfare associations will no longer be able to afford to finance municipal obligations through donations, which could lead to admission stops and thus endanger public security!
The demands of the animal welfare associations
- The missing funds that the municipalities need for the cost -covering reimbursement of fund animals must be compensated for by state funds!
- The complete deletion of animal shelter funding in the state budget 2025 must be withdrawn!
- Introduction of a nationwide castration ordinance with obligation to register for free -range cats!
The committed helpers in the animal shelters work tirelessly for the state goal of animal welfare, and 365 days a year. However, politics has been ignoring the pressing problems for years, while the animal rights activists are working on the limit of their resilience every day to help animals in need. Now it's time for quick action!
